100KD an Hour for Bowling

A good bowl every now and again is quite fun, but usually the lanes are quite crowded in Kuwait. 360 Mall has devised a solution for this. Open up a private bowling room with private lanes that you can bowl in.

It’s got 3 lanes, a private catering area, a pool table, and even 3 hanging chairs that look kind of cool. How much is it going to set you back you ask? 100KD an hour. Yes, that’s right. A 100KD! That’s $347 in US dollars. Quite a pretty penny for some private bowling!

360 Mall is located at the intersection of the King Faisal Highway and the 6th Ring Road. The bowling alley is located on the top floor.

Gamestop in Kuwait!

Check this out! An actual Gamestop in Kuwait. Well, technically it’s not an official Gamestop, but hey it’s the closest thing we got to a real one! It’s just a video game store that is “borrowing” the Gamestop logo and name.

But there’s a huge difference between this Gamestop and the Gamestops in America; the guys working in this store are actually competent about video games!

This store is located in Al Rehab Complex in Hawally. 1st floor.

Weekend days in Kuwait

From the day I was born to the day I left for University when I was 18 the weekend days in Kuwait have been Saturday as the starting day and Wednesday as the ending day, leaving Thursday and Friday as the weekend days. Kuwait is an Islamic Monarchy so it has to adhere that Fridays are the holy day and no work should be allowed on that day.

The trouble with this is that the rest of the world starts their weeks on Monday and ends them on Friday, leaving Saturday and Sunday as the weekend days, which means that banks are closed on Saturday and Sunday around the world. With how this works, Kuwait only has Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday for bank transactions around the world. Banks couldn’t be open on Kuwait on weekends (Thursday and Friday) and couldn’t do bank transactions on the rest of the world’s weekend days (Saturday and Sunday). Pretty bad for banking.

So the Kuwait government decided that it was going to change the weekend days in Kuwait to Friday and Saturday so that it could do bank transactions on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday (1 more day than before). It’s a great idea for banking purposes and many counties of the GCC have already started using this weekend days system.

In America, the weekends days are Saturday and Sunday, which I had to get used to when I went to study there because I was already so used to Thursday and Friday being the weekend days. I never really got used to the American weekend days and was always correcting myself when I mistakingly thought the weekends were on the wrong days or thought that it was Monday (former start of the week in Kuwait) when it was actually Saturday (start of the week in the US). I never really did get used to it. Now that I’ve moved back to Kuwait I thought hey, back to the other weekend days that I already know! But, the new Kuwait weekend system started while I was in the US. So now I have have to get used to the NEW weekend days of Friday and Saturday. It’s confusing and I always seem to think we’re ahead by one day, for example I thought today was Sunday, when it’s actually Saturday. Oh the confusion!
